The Plainview Elementary Media Center abides by the policy and procedures approved by the Dekalb County Board of Education in the Library Media Manual. This manual is included on pages 138-150 of the Dekalb County Schools Policies and Procedures which can be accessed at www.dekalbk12.org In addition:
The Plainview Elementary Media Center opens for circulation at 7:40 a.m. and closes at 3:00 p.m.
The media center operates on a modified flexible schedule. While fixed classes are scheduled for all elementary classes, the media center remains open for student checkouts during classes.
PreK-1st grade classes visit the library once a week. 2nd-6th grade classes visit the library biweekly.
PreK and 1st grade students are allowed to check out one book at a time. 2nd and 3rd grade students are allowed to check out up to 4 books. 4th-6th grade students are allowed to check out 2 books.
Students who lose or damage a book beyond repair must pay the purchase price for the book before being allowed to check out another book.
Students must return all library books checked out or pay for them before withdrawing from school.
Library Rules
1. Listen and follow directions
2. Use voices appropriate for activity or so as not to disturb others
3. Keep your hands and feet to yourself
4. Take care of all library materials and equipment
5. Be respectful
Students visiting the media center should follow library rules along with those established by the school and classroom teacher. Failure to do so will result in the following disciplinary action:
1. Verbal warning from library staff
2. Time out away from other students
3. Sent back to class or the elementary office.
